Ilex Close
The aerial photograph below shows The Grange and Mulberry House, two properties that were demolished to make way for the construction of Ilex Close, in the early 1970s. The new road was named after the Ilex trees that were felled to make way for the development.

Another victim of the development was the white painted building in the centre of the aerial view which is shown below in close up at a much earlier time.
Windrush Road
Windrush Road runs west from The Warren to join what later became Bouverie Road. There once was a windpump at the western end, which may explain the origin of the name.
This picture shows the eastern end of Windrush Road, with a farm wall that is believed was repaired by Italian prisoners of war between 1939 and 1945. In the background there are some early examples of council houses built during the 1930s.
